Atlanta - 2008 Development of Excellence (DOE) Awards were presented this year at the Atlanta Regional Commission’s State of the Region Breakfast in November. Richport Properties was recognized with the 2008 Exceptional Merit for Neighborhood Infill and Sustainable Site and Infrastructure Design for Davis Oaks, a luxury townhome community located in Decatur. While constructing the community’s 21 three-level townhomes on a 2.6-acre site, builders were able to preserve 34 percent of the property’s original greenspace and offer a certified National Wildlife Federation Backyard Habitat relaxation trail. Davis Oaks included sustainability in its design plans by connecting exiting neighborhoods with an intense commercial intersection while still promoting walkability, as well as providing for its own water management through a greenspace buffer. “We are truly honored to be recognized by the ARC a second time in ten years of the awards.” says Richport’s founder and President, Rick Porter. “In planning to build Old Suwanee, we wanted to ‘do the right thing’ for future growth in Suwanee and the Atlanta region and we continued this philosophy at Davis Oaks.” The awards are given to developments in the 10 - county metro region that exemplify the policies and practices of ARC’s Regional Development Plan. Developments are eligible for selection as a Development of Excellence if they advance the policies and best development practices of the Regional Development Plan. Past award winners include developments that show how great design can create a "positive framework for the future" today and showcase how our community is creating innovative and successful developments for the future in the Atlanta Region. 5 OBIE win for Richport Properties
